Recruitment & Social Media - a good match ?
Tuesday, January 6, 2009 at 15:48
On March 3 I'll be speaking at a Kluwer event on Recruitment and the role social media can play in that context. (See for a discount below !)
Recruitment and finding the right skills will be of the uttermost importance this year. Although a lot of companies will downsize, having the right people on the right spot with the right skills will be crucial to survive the current crisis.
While most people will immediately think about the potential value of social networking à la LinkedIn I will speak about the importance of syndicating your corporate values and of course your job openings throughout the web.
It is not enough to have a great recruitment site today, your information will have to travel to where your potential new employees are already networking on the web. Of course RSS is crucial in this and a lot of organizations will have to learn the value of automatic content syndication.
Recently I wrote an article for Job@, one of the most successful job/hiring magazines in Belgium and spoke about the value of Twitter as an example of syndicating job related content...
But when I look around, most companies do not Twitter their vacancies.
Even worse; Job@ has a Twitter feed but doesn't really promote it and hasn't updated it since September (just one Tweet). Their counterpart in Belgium called "Vacature" missed out on their Twitter-handle as @vacature leads to a Dutch recruitment site of a company which understands the value of "vacancy syndication" by using microblogging and RSS feeds...
By March I hope to have some more examples and if you see them, let me know ! (Here's a nice article as well - recruiters checking potential candidates profiles online....)
If you are interested in coming to the full day seminar by Kluwer, just mention my name when you register and you should be able to get a 15% discount.
If you are coming, please let me know so we can meet in Antwerp. In the meantime you can also join the LinkedIn group here.
New Year, new job & best wishes !

Winter in PajottenlandHi everyone,
First of all I would like to wish you all the very best for 2009 ! Above anything else I wish you & your family peace and good health...
Next I wanted to use this occasion to thank the people I have worked with over the last 12 months, both colleagues & clients.
I have met communications professionals across Europe and it has been a fascinating experience working with them on their social media strategies and plans.
Sure there are a lot of unanswered questions in the corporate communications world when it comes to blogs, wikis, RSS and the like but I was fortunate enough to meet people across Europe who are convinced that the "new communications model" will work for them.
Some encounters are proof to me that there can be place for authenticity, transparency and two way communications within the PR world and corporate business communications teams. And this across all possible industries...
Finally I also want to announce that I am leaving Blackline, returning to IBM part time and that I'll continue to work as a freelance social media consultant for clients across Europe.
I'll focus on strategic consulting for corporate clients and NGOs, I will continue and even increase my social media workshops and will of course speak at conferences and universities on a regular basis.
Please do not hesitate to get in touch with me to know more and do subscribe through my RSS feed or by email to get the latest updates of my blog. I will announce workshops and training sessions here as well.
Here is my little card for the season.
Looking forward to work & have fun with you in 2009 !
