Diamond Jigging, late in the season can be some of the most active fishing of the year!! Find the birds or find the schools of fish on your fish finder and drop the jigs down!!
Instead of jigging, in a traditional sense, try the “Squidding” technique. Many people will drop a Diamond Jig down to the bottom and start jigging the rod… lifting it up and letting the jig fall to the bottom. This does work but a MUCH more effective way to catch a Bass is to drop the jig to the bottom and SLOWLY reel it up 10 or 15 turns… then drop it back down. “Squidding” is an older term but the techniques is still VERY effective!
Also, try using Diamond Jigs with NO TUBES… just plain Chrome or Hammered Diamond Jigs. Gold Diamond jigs can also be a great alternative!!

For the boaters, things have slowed to a crawl. What little action we’ve heard about has been from the West Bar… Clam Chumming. We’ve had a couple reports from people that have been along the beaches looking for jig fishing…

Unfortunately, sounds like things have become VERY quiet all around. There were plenty of fish around, mostly smaller ones, but in the past two days they seem to have vanished. A number of people have been visiting Tobay and

When the weather cooperates the local reefs and wrecks have been quite good with many limits of Blackfish being reported. Sounds like the bottom fishing in the bays has slowed but the fishing in the ocean is much improved. Any piece of bottom in 40 to 60 feet of water has been holding fish but considering the lack of action in the bays EVERYONE has been on the reefs and wrecks… making it a little hard to find a spot that hasn’t already been picked clean. Hempstead Reef, Atlantic Beach Reef and the Iberia wreck have probably been the most popular and most consistent areas lately. Green crabs have been the ticket for all the better action but we have had a few reports of Clams working well too.
For the Seabass, sounds like people fishing clams have been working the same areas as mentioned and putting a few nice ones in the box. The deeper wrecks and reefs seem to be holding the better fish though. Areas like Cholera, Middle Grounds and the wrecks in 80 to 100 feet of water have been better than the inshore pieces.

For the boaters, things have been a little slow, most likely due to this terrible weather, however, there are still a few fish around. The West Bar has been decent, although it has been extremely crowded, making it hard to find a place to fish. Clam Chumming on the bar seems to be the best bet, especially on the outgoing tides.
The inlet area has been giving up a few on Eels too, again on the outgoing tide and the bridges are holding a few as well. The faster the current is these days, the better the action has been.
There a some people plugging the back bays with some sucess too, although it doesn’t seem to be in full swing yet. The bites have been a little slow and conditions have made plugging a little difficult.
As things improve, we’ll try to keep you updated!

Robert Moses Filed 5 has been consistently producing fish for about a week now. Sounds like the Sandeels have shown up there and brought the Bass with them. Joe from the shop had over 40 fish the other day and a number of our customers have reported similar result. Considering the bait that has been around, tins have been the way to go.
Diamond jigs and sandeel shaped lures like the
Point Jude Pojee have been out producing just about everything else! Sounds like mostly small Bass and a few big Blues…. but plenty of action!!
Other than that, the surf has been rather quiet around here with scattered reports from other beaches. We did have a couple reports from people fishing with bait in Point Lookout and we weighed a 20 plus pounder for one person who also had 5 other shorts.
Seems like this warm weather isn’t helping the fall run but we’ll keep our ears open!!
