SAT: All Information about SAT Reasoning Test

October 16th, 2008 100percentile Administrator Posted in General | 3 Comments »

SAT: At a Glance

SAT stands for Scholastic Aptitude Test. This is an admission test for entry in to the Colleges of United States of America for Under Graduate Courses. SAT has been renamed as “SAT Reasoning Test” (or known as SAT I) which is owned, published, and developed by the College Board, a non-profit organization in the United States.

The SAT Reasoning Test is widely used for admissions to colleges and universities in the United States. It tests students’ knowledge of subjects that are necessary for college success: reading, writing, and mathematics. The SAT assesses the critical thinking skills students need for academic success in college - skills that students learned in high school. Most of the high school juniors and seniors in the US take SAT to prove their skills and knowledge that they have attained in and outside of their classroom.

SAT: Eligibility for Indian Students

SAT Reasoning Test or SAT subjects Test (or both) is typically taken by high school juniors and seniors in the United States. Indian students who have completed their 12 years of schooling successfully from any recognized Indian board or university can take SAT for admission to various American colleges.

There are no criteria of minimum marks etc. for appearing in the SAT Reasoning Test or SAT Subject Tests. However, several colleges need a good SAT score along with a good academic record for admission to their undergraduate programs. The colleges may conduct their own tests viz. Essay Writing, Personality Test etc and also ask for Curriculum Vitae and recommendations from teacher etc.

For Subject Tests, colleges specify the kind of test they require for admission or placement; others allow applicants to choose which tests to take.

Nanotechnology: The Technology of the Future

September 11th, 2008 100percentile Administrator Posted in General | 3 Comments »

Email This Post Email This Post

Nowadays, many students of class 11th and 12th in the science stream (biology and maths) are keen to know about Nanoscience and Nanotechnology as a career option. Students very often ask that they want to study Nanotechnology but they don’t get much information about the course available in India. They also want to know which institutes are offering the course in nanotechnology and whether the course is available at undergraduate level or not, whether IITs are offering BTech in Nanotechnology or not and so on.

To clear all such doubts of the students, we are providing below some basic information on nanotechnology, its definition, application, career prospects, institutes offering the course in nanotechnology and other details.

To start with, we should tell you that courses in Nanotechnology are offered basically at Postgraduate and research levels. The elite technological universities viz. IITs, IISc, Jadavpur University, BHU and few others are offering MTech degree and research facilities in this field. The Amity University in New Delhi also offers a five-and-a-half-year integrated M. Tech, course in Nanotechnology.

Currently, no course in Nanotechnology is offered at the Graduation level, in any reputed institute in India. However, the IIT`s are considering the option of starting a B. Tech programs in Nanotechnology very soon.

Nanotechnology – Definition and Classification

Nanotechnology is one of the emerging branches of Science and Technology which is based on the scale of nanometers. It can be defined as the application of science, engineering and technology to develop novel materials and devices in different fields in the nano-range i.e. in molecular size. One nanometer is equal to 10-9 of a metre i.e. 0.000000001 metre. One nano particle can be considered 5,000 to 50,000 times smaller than the diameter of a human hair.

Nanotechnology is classified under three main sub branches - Nanomaterials, Nanoelectronics and Nano-Biotechnology. Nanotechnology finds wide application in areas viz. environment, aerospace, telecommunications, solar energy and computing etc. This science is used to change the properties of materials, make advances in Biotechnology or to design other products. The study of nanotechnology needs the knowledge and application of other branches of Science viz. physics, chemistry, biology and engineering.

August 29th, 2008 100percentile Administrator Posted in General | No Comments »

Email This Post Email This Post

The long standing demand of the people of Bihar for IIT finally came true when the formal inauguration of IIT-Patna was made on 6th August, 2008. The regular classes for the first batch commenced on 7th August from Patliputra Government Polytechnic campus.

A total of 109 students, including six girls from various parts of the country have taken admission to the IIT-P. Currently, IIT-P is offering courses in three formal trades - electrical engineering, mechanical engineering and computer sciences.  The classes are being conducted from the temporary campus and the fully-fledged campus is coming up at Amhara near Bihta, 25 km away from heart of Patna city.

As per HRD Ministry sources, a panel has been constituted to appoint a Director for IIT-P. The new Director is likely to join the office within one month. The ministry has also approved creation of 30 faculty posts per year in the first three years of establishment.

The Government of India had earlier approved setting up IITs in Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan, Orissa, Gujarat, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. The acquisition of land for setting up of these IITs is in progress.

Counseling : FAQ’s about NSIT/DCE

June 17th, 2008 Man Mohan Gupta Posted in DCE, JEE Counseling | 54 Comments »

Email This Post Email This Post

Before I really begin with this post I would like to mention that I am a student of Electronics & Communication Engineering at NSIT. All the things that I would be telling in this article are solely based on my 1 yr long stay at NSIT.

Before really starting I would like to say that last year I had seen some non-Delhi(who cannot give CEE) students who had AIEEE rank of about 5000 not applying to DCE/NSIT because they think that the seats would close early. Its not so, due to fact that DCE is perhaps the last college to hold its counseling so many ppl coming through AIEEE have already taken admission somewhere and they don’t bother about DCE so ppl if your rank is till 9000 also u stand a chance of getting DCE civil. Don’t go with the 1st list where u might be in waiting but the fact is that constant changes are done in the list and about 5 lists come before the final admission.

IITJEE Counseling: How to change ‘Branch’ in IIT-D?

June 5th, 2008 Rhishabh Garg Posted in IITJEE 2008 Result | 22 Comments »

Email This Post Email This Post

You may not get what you desire, But you surely get what you need…

After getting an AIR of 522 in JEE, the first question in your mind would be,” Which branch would I get?” Same happened with me last year and I was going to get Mechanical at IIT Delhi. I had always seen myself as a Computer Engineer from IIT-D which was not to be.

So, I decided to give in one more year of hard work so as to get a Branch Change (tougher than clearing JEE). When I reached IIT Hostel, I realized how tough my journey was to be. It is tougher than +2 JEE preparation because you don’t have parents and VMC classes any more to motivate you, rather one has to face distractions of “College life” and “Hostel life”.

As a mechanical engineering student, I found out that it is one of the best departments at IITD. During my first year, I realized that you need to be satisfied and happy with the branch which you get and should try to perform to your best which if God permits, will help in getting the branch which you aimed at or at least better than your present one (as in my case).

Best of luck to all of you…

About the Author: Rhishabh Garg joined IIT Delhi as a Mechanical Engineering student and worked very hard to and was able to change to Electrical Engineering. He had achieved an AIR rank of 522 in 2007.

IITJEE Counselling: CS at IIT Delhi

June 5th, 2008 Varun Gulshan Posted in IITJEE 2008 Result | 8 Comments »

Email This Post Email This Post

Hello there. I’m a B. Tech. Computer Science (CS) graduate from IIT Delhi. I finished my course in 2007, and am currently pursuing a PhD at the University of Oxford. I will talk about the CS course here at IIT Delhi, and some other things that one might need to consider when choosing between CS (Computer Science) and EE (Electrical Engineering). But before I talk about anything, its important to know that these are my personal opinions and viewpoints, and not everyone looks at the same thing in the same way. (“We don’t see things as they are, we see things as we are”). So one can take this advice, but should take his/her own decisions. Coming back to the point, here are a few things I want to talk about:

About CS at IIT Delhi

When I talk about CS at IIT Delhi, it mostly applies to both the 4 and the 5 year programs unless otherwise stated.
