Daniel Cousin put Hull in front, capitalising on Tal Ben-Haim's awful back-pass to flick the ball past Joe Hart, who later went off injured.

Stephen Ireland levelled after a heavy touch from Kamil Zayatte gifted him an open goal and he then put his side ahead with a brilliant 18-yard shot.

But Geovanni equalised against his former club with a deflected free-kick.

Brown happy with hard fought point

Portsmouth

Bookings:
Pamarot 39

West Ham halted their losing streak with their first clean sheet of the season and a point, but they could easily have had all three.

Portsmouth's three best first-half chances fell to Jermain Defoe but despite the visitors dominating, keeper Robert Green was rarely tested.

Craig Bellamy's second-half free-kick that hit the bar for West Ham was the best chance for either side.

That chance inspired the hosts to go on the attack but Portsmouth held on.
