She was always the woman poised on
the edge of a river with her bruised
eyes and weeping hair. We moved to
California to drink in the sunlight,
but in that city of angels she heard
their clear voices calling up the dead
from that famous crack in the earth.
Let go of these shadows I say,
but this is the voice of the sane,
she is already,
fragile
breaking
broken.
I find myself in that silent place
wanting to take her hand and
cross over these hyphenated
lines,
Bi-polar
Paranoid-Schizophrenic
but she is a mind grappling
a vast chasm between us
no bigger than a silken thread.

Breathing in Darkness

This darkness wrapped around
me like a cocoon against this
room full of awkward tongues.
Their vitriol hanging from knowing
smiles and cradled in cupped
hands. I tell myself it doesn’t
matter as I feel my chest heave
with their malice which has coated
my lungs like coal dust.

Refund

You would love to see that fortune
teller in Jackson Square again.
The one that told you it was good
luck when a bird shit on your
shoulder.

Phantoms and Tail Lights

Idyllic scars oozed from a ribbon of asphalt,
forlorn windows gaze from derelict houses their
shadows stretched out like gravestones in the
late afternoon sun. A broken down café smiles
with the promise of real home cooking, echoing
with the clink clink clink of cutlery on plates. A
town of phantoms and tail lights shimmering on the
surface of the silver pool of your rear view mirror.
Gaining notice for an instant before slowly winking out.

From one Hockey Mom to another...
This cracked me up! I hope you enjoy!
I was just checking the CNN election tracker. It shows Texas 57% McCain to 38% Obama.
Seriously when are we going to make some changes in the voting process. I just feel what is the point of me voting. I think it is time to do away with the electoral college.

A Moment of Brilliance

I’m enmeshed in thinking,
ideas scrawled on wet
sand. I’m riding that satiny
place between just about to
discover and discovering,
words; that will make a
difference. Truth caught in
a net of punctuation. The
sun turns a fiery gaze
to consider the emerging
sea foam flowing, ebbing,
washing away. Frustration
tunneling into sweater pockets
pulled close against the
coming night, searching for
a glimmer of inspiration.
There are so many times when I am just about to fall asleep a great idea comes to me.
I always say I'll write it down in the morning and of course by then it is completely forgotten.
